Tour Description

The activity begins in Don Diego with a short walk of low difficulty along a path surrounded by nature at all times accompanied by local guides. Thus we arrive at the point of the river where we will take the floats and receive the necessary instructions to begin the descent through the calm waters of the Don Diego River. During the tour we will have the opportunity to observe local fauna such as migratory and local birds and howler monkeys, as well as the majestic flora of the Sierra Nevada such as trees up to 40 meters high. Additionally, during the tour, we will find a floating bar set up on a boat where travelers can purchase drinks such as cocktails, beers and soft drinks.

Finally we will arrive at the mouth of the river in the Caribbean Sea, to a virgin beach of majestic scenic beauty. Here we will have time to bathe, take photos, walk the soft sand that divides the river from the sea, and to rest and relax with the natural sounds and landscapes. On clear days we can see the snow-capped peaks of the mountains. At the end of the experience, the return will be made by motor boat to the starting point.

Time Schedules

The tour operates daily from 6 a.m. until 3 in the afternoon. We recommend doing it in the morning hours when nature is most resplendent and when the fauna is most active.

How to get to Don Diego River

Don Diego is located at kilometer 56 via Santa Marta - Palomino, on the Troncal del Caribe. You can arrive by your own car for which we have parking. We can also organize private transportation for you and the price will depend on the number of people and your location.

Another option is to arrive by the local public bus which leaves from Santa Marta every 20 minutes throughout the day and leaves you at the entrance to the town of Don Diego where one of our guides will be waiting for you on the road ready to receive you.

The local bus is from the Cootransoriente company and you can take it at the Santa Marta Market or at the Buenavista Mall. If you are staying in the Tayrona, Buritaca, Guachaca, Palomino area, you can take the bus on the main road.
